Mallorca has over 200 beaches, knowing which ones to visit during your stay can be a challenge so we’ve put together a list of beaches that will help you decide which ones to see whilst visiting the island. There are many different types of beaches in Mallorca from long sandy stretches to remote picturesque coves.
Some of our favourite spots whilst visiting Mallorca were the ones that took a bit more effort to get to, maybe a short hike or walk meant that these places were a little less crowded and you were able to enjoy the scenery along the route. More popular spots have facilities such as sun deck chairs and umbrellas, beach bars, toilets and other beaches have no facilities.
Read our Mallorca guide which includes details on what to do and see on the island and stay tuned for more Mallorca guides, a Mallorca campervan trip and a 7-day itinerary across the beautiful island.
If you’re heading to mainland Spain, have a look at the natural wonder of Bárdenas Reales, a surreal landscape located on mainland Spain, which is worth adding to your itinerary if passing the Pyrenees, close to the French and Spanish border.
The Canary Islands are one of the best places to catch some winter sun. Read all about the hidden treasure of La Graciosa, volcanic Lanzarote and wild beaches in Fuerteventura.
What should I bring with me to the beach?
Avoid buying umbrellas, or other beach items you can’t take back with you. Tourism is one of the primary sources of income for Mallorca with millions of visitors each year. There is a delicate balance between the number of visitors and protecting the beautiful landscapes that visitors come to see.
Avoid purchasing single-use plastics and beach items you will only use on the island and not take back with you. Consider renting a sun bed and umbrella, bring your own beach towel or go to a beach with trees that provide free shade!

Platja de Cala Pi
A sheltered cove on the south coast of Mallorca, Cala Pi is in a romantic setting with crystal clear water and a soft sandy beach. The beach is surrounded by tall cliffs covered in trees and greenery which give it a wild, remote feel even though there are resorts and buildings nearby.
The traditional boat houses which line the cove create a stunning backdrop to the beach and are a great place to bathe and swim from.
Good to know | Walk along the cliff path to the left and follow it for fantastic views of the cove from above
Where to Park | Park along the Carrer Penyes or Carrer Betlem for free parking
Where to Stay | Sa Caseta Mallorca, Finca Gomera - Agroturismo Hotel, Apartment Hibiscus
Cala Llombards
One of the more well-known spots on the island, with good reason, is Cala Llombards. This spectacular cove is one of the most picturesque beaches with rocks and pine trees framing the white sandy beach on either side. There are ladders positioned across the rocks allowing easy access for a lovely ocean swim.
There are beautiful boathouses that capture your gaze and create an atmosphere that feels like you have stepped onto the set of mama mia. Cala Llombards is a sheltered spot for a swim however, we managed to visit on a day when the waves were huge. We would recommend getting there early or later in the day, especially if you want to park on the beach.
Good to know | To avoid the crowds either visit in the shoulder season April/May September/October months or arrive early morning or late evening.
Where to Park | There is a car park on the beach which has limited space and was full when we arrived, we parked further outside in a large car park and took a 10-15 minute walk to the beach. We also walked from this car park to Caló de Moro.
Where to Stay | Sa Caseta Mallorca, Es Jaç, Farinera Vella, Cal Reiet Holistic Retreat
Platja de Formentor
Formentor Beach is set on the north of the island within a stunning location, the scenery from this stretch of sand is breathtaking. Everywhere is covered in pine trees and the beach overlooks mountains, where it feels like you’ve arrived in paradise. There are many sunbeds for hire on this beach and there are spots for you to place your towel, but it can be fairly limited as the beach is narrow and long.
The road to this beach is all part of the adventure, from Port de Pollença follow the Ma-2210 and along the route, you’ll pass the El Colomer viewpoint and Albercutx Watchtower which are worth stopping along the way.
There are facilities nearby the beach including cafés and restaurants which are quite expensive (probably because there aren’t many alternatives nearby) and public toilets. The beach has lifeguards and outdoor showers to wash after a swim.
Good to know | If you don’t fancy driving mountain roads, catch the ferry from Port de Pollença or the local bus to save money on parking. Head up the mountain roads to Albercutx Watchtower for panoramic views of the beach and Illa de Formentor.
Where to Park | There are a few car parks located near Forementor Beach, which have a barrier that will give you a ticket you must pay before you leave the car park. Parking is expensive and will cost around 2 hours €11.80.
Where to Stay | Hoposa Pollensamar Apartamentos, Hotel Capri, Mon Boutique Hotel, El Vicenç de la Mar
Platja de Sa Font de Sant Joan
Located in the north of Mallorca on the Alcùdia Peninsula, Platja de Sa Font de Sant Joan is a beautiful sandy beach and a great spot for snorkelling. The clear water allows for good visibility to see marine life and there is a marina nearby so you will see boats sail past whilst enjoying this spectacular beach.
One of the best things about this beach is the views from the beach of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range on the horizon. The cove is perfectly sheltered from the wind making it an ideal sunbathing spot, located not far from north of Port d’Alcùdia.
Good to know | Bring your snorkelling gear to make the most of spotting fish and other marine wildlife in this pristine crystal clear water.
Where to Park | Park along the road Cami de Manresa and the beach is located opposite the road
Where to Stay | ARA Alcudia, Las Gaviotas Suites Hotel & Spa, Can Picafort Palace
Cala Varques
This is one of the most remote beaches we visited in Mallorca. Cala Varques is a remote, pristine, virgin beach with some of the bluest water we have ever seen! There is a very chilled atmosphere when you arrive on the beach with a beach bar serving cold drinks and fruit and it feels like you’ve stepped back in time.
Cala Varques is accessible either by boat or a 30-minute hike, through a pine forest and it does require climbing over a small wall. There are no facilities on the beach other than the beach bar, which makes it a wild and beautiful nature spot. There are many fishes and it is definitely worth bringing your snorkelling gear. The beach is protected by two headlands, which makes it a lovely sheltered spot.
From the main beach, take a walk along the path to the right and you’ll discover another small beach which is accessible at low tide. Take a walk along the cliffs to the left to Cala Romantica, explore the coastline and enjoy incredible views from above. There is an impressive cave system and you’ll come across an archway named Pont Natural d’Es Caló Blanc.
Good to know | The walk to the beach is not paved and uneven in places, pack light and get there early as parking is limited.
Where to Park | There are two laybys with parking spaces off the Ma-4014 with limited parking it can get busy in peak season
Where to Stay | Bexan Cala Mandia, Finca Son Josep de Baix, ROMANTICA Voramar
Caló des Moro
Caló des Moro located 6 km south of Santanyí, is a small beach surrounded by high cliffs framing the most beautiful cove with crystal clear water. It is a bit of an adventure to find, but is worth the effort to see this picturesque place for yourself.
The path down to the beach is relatively steep with steps, the starting point of the walk to the beach is from here, and follow the path to the right until the beach comes into view. The beach is very small, with little sand to sunbathe as the beach is mostly surrounded by rocks and there are no facilities nearby. Caló des Moro is excellent for snorkelling and swimming, especially with the clarity of the water.
The walk down to Caló des Moro takes around 10 minutes and is accessible by foot. We’d recommend good footwear for a sturdy grip on the paths. The beach is not far from Cala Llombards and is a 30-minute walk from Caló des Moro.
Good to know | There are quite a few beaches nearby that are worth visiting including Cala Llombards, Cala S’Almonia, Cala Figuera and Cala Mondragó
Where to Park | There is parking along the street of Carrer des Caló des Moro, please be aware of parking restrictions and do not block entrances, driveways etc. Another option is to park at the large car park that is located between Cala Llombards and Caló des Moro.
Where to Stay | Sa Caseta Mallorca, Es Jaç, Farinera Vella, Cal Reiet Holistic Retreat
Cala Estany d'en Mas or Cala RomÁntica
This beautiful cove in Cala Romantica has soft white sand and the most vibrant blue water. On the beach, you will find a beach bar and sun loungers with umbrellas available to rent for the day.
Right next to the beach, there is a restaurant serving seafood for convenience, right next to the beach and Lifeguards are on watch giving you peace of mind when you go out for a swim.
A little further along the path from the restaurant, there is the option to book a Boat tour that takes you along the coast to visit the Pirate Cave and other incredible beaches along this stretch of coastline.
Good to know | Walk through the Blau Punta Reina Resort (take a left at this spot and go up the stairs) to reach Platja de Cala Mendia, another beautiful cove and views of the Pirare cave.
Where to Park | Free parking next to the beach on Cala Estany d’en Mas, if you do park close to the beach be careful not to get stuck in deep sand.
Where to Stay | Sa Caseta Mallorca, Bexan Cala Mandia, Finca Son Josep de Baix, ROMANTICA Voramar
Cala Agulla
On the northeast coast of Mallorca, Cala Agulla is a beautiful beach surrounded by pristine nature with a stunning backdrop of the mountains of Llevant Natural Park. The beach is set among pine trees and rolling sand dunes with a diverse range of animals and plants. In 1991, it was designated as a Natural Area of Special Interest and efforts have been made to protect this fragile ecosystem from boardwalks to areas roped off from public access.
The beach is a long sandy stretch and there is plenty of space to find a spot to enjoy this award-winning blue flag beach. The wild beauty of Cala Agulla makes this beach one of the most impressive beaches in Mallorca, located close to the charming medieval town of Capdepera. There are facilities on the beach including a beach bar, outdoor shower, toilets, lifeguards and sun beds with umbrellas to rent.
Good to know | Walk a bit further to Cala Moto which is the next bay north from Cala Agulla, a much quieter spot with many hiking trails nearby. If you want a break from the beach, take a short hike from Cala Agulla to Cala Mesquida for a chance to spot some wildlife and spectacular views of the beaches from above. If you’re looking for a great sunset spot, walk along to Cala Lliteras and sit on the rocks to watch the sunset over Cala Agulla.
Where to Park | There is a large car park by the beach
Where to Stay | Yartan Boutique Hotel, Finca Sestelrica, Petit Hotel Forn Nou
