Imsouane is home to the longest wave in Africa at Magic Bay. Attracting surfers from all around the world to catch a wave that on good days, can be ridden for more than 700 metres. A popular spot for longboarders because the harbour wall protects the bay from bigger waves. This means that the long wave is ideal for a more relaxed and laid back surf.
If you’ve decided that you next escape is Imsouane and not sure where to stay, then don’t worry we have got you covered. Below we’ve listed some of the best guest houses, surf camps and unque places to stay in Imsouane.
Imsouane is located an hours drive north of Taghazout, and hour and a half from Agadir and two hours south of Essaouira. The two closest air ports are located in Essaouira and Agadir, some of the guest houses offer shuttles to and from these airports.
With the popularity of Imsouane increasing every year, the Moroccan government took drastic action to demolish the buildings lining Cathedral Beach. Some have mourned the destruction of culture and heritage, while many have said it's been a long time coming. The majority of the demolition were unlicensed buildings lining the beach which were illegal with no proper sewage systems spilling into the water and unsafe construction.
The hope now is that Imsouane is able to retain its character and that future construction projects are not dominated by big chain 5 star resorts that could potentially rip the soul out of Imsouane.
There is reason to be optimistic, from what we've personally seen when we visited Imsouane. Unique boutique hotels that are locally owned, Berber camps and local surf houses still make up the majority of places to stay. With proper sewage disposal, great food and a friendly atmosphere. Imsouane is still a surfers paradise!
Dreamsea Imsouane Morocco
Dreamsea has incredible surf and yoga camps all around the world. The Dreamsea camp at Imsouane is particularly beautiful. Offering a variety of unique accommodation that Dreamsea has become famous for. Think of it as an extremely gorgeous glamping experience on the Moroccan coast. Wooden boat rooms, Glamping tents, luxury wooden huts and double rooms with their own bathrooms.
Dreamsea has created something different that mirrors the calm laid back vibe of Imsouane, yet is still comfortable and classy.
Only metres from the beach and surf, the camp is situated so that every evening you can watch the sunset over the ocean. Dreamsea does have a no noise policy after 10pm and it is located away from the main street of Imsouane where most of the restaurants are sited. This means you can enjoy the nightlife, but are also guaranteed a good night sleep.
Imsouane Surf Paradise
With rooms that offer magnificent views of Imsouane Bay, Imsouane Surf Paradise offers rooms that have their own private bathrooms and breakfast is included. Located just 70 metres from Magic Bay, surfers can be in the water in next to no time.
The guest house has a variety of rental surf boards to cater for all abilities. The comfortable rooms are the perfect place to relax after a day's surfing. When dinner rolls around there are plenty of restaurants located only a short walk away making Imsouane Surf Paradise ideally located.
The O Experience
With exceptional views across Magic Bay the O Experience really is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are clean and comfortable and decorated in a refreshing minimalist style. The courtyard area is perfect for an afternoon of sunbathing before enjoying a rooftop yoga class.
We particularly loved the fresh breakfast which was delicious and included freshly squeezed juice. Watching the morning surfers while eating breakfast was a peaceful experience that made us very excited to get into the water.
The team at the O Experience are incredibly friendly and helpful and attentive to all your needs. The O is located in possibly the best location of town, not far from all the restaurants and both beaches, while offering exceptional views.
It is easy to understand why the O is almost always fully booked now, if you want to stay then you might be looking at booking a long way in advance before visiting. Read more about our time at the O Experience.
Aloha Imsouane
A surf camp offering apartments, suites, pool sun terrace, bbq and even a games room. Aloha is the perfect place to meet other guests and surfers.
Located just above Magic bay and offering quick easy access to the beach and waves. All of the apartments come with a fitted kitchen including oven and fridge.
Aloha has views of the cliffs where the sun rises over in the mornings, the longest wave and sunset views. One of the more modern buildings in town, and only a short walk from the restaurants and other amenities of Imsouane.
Imsouane Magic House
Located next door to Aloha Imsouane, Imsouane Magic house is also one of the newer buildings in the village. Offering comfortable apartment type accommodation with epic views of the bay. The large balconies are great for those warm sunny mornings and for a quick surf check.
The communal pool is the perfect place to relax and cool down in the midday heat and an easy walk from the in house restaurant. Imsouane Magic House offers on site parking, surf lessons as well as yoga for the perfect escape to Imsouane.
Berber Beldi Camp
Berber Beldi Camp is possibly the most unique and beautiful place to stay. While it is actually located 15 minutes by car outside of Imsouane, this beautiful Berber camp is worth staying at to escape everyday life.
The camp is based on traditional Berber tents but infused with a modern twist. This creates a charming luxury desert oasis full of unique touches. The indoor/outdoor exposed living creates a grounding natural element to the accommodation.
Showing with the open views can feel liberating, yet it is still private. Each accommodation type has its own private bathroom and from our own experience of having previously stayed in Berber style tents, this is next level and well worth booking for the experience.
