Schwarzschmied Hotel is in Lana, a beautiful village within the Etschtal Valley/Val d’Adige in South Tyrol. South Tyrol has both a German and Italian name for most places, however Lana is one of the few which was not given an Italian or Latin derivative after the region of South Tyrol was annexed to Italy.

By plane
The closest airport to Lana is Innsbruck International Airport in Austria which takes 2.5 hours to drive from the airport. From the airport, there is an option to catch a bus direct to Lana from Innsbruck, catch a bus on line F to Südbahnstraße, 6020 Innsbruck which takes you to the bus stop where the Flixbus service to Lana will leave and take 2 hours 10 minutes. Book your tickets online for Flixbus to guarantee a seat. Other nearby airports include Verona and Milan in Italy.
By train
If you are travelling by public transport, buses and trains run regularly to Bolzano with connecting buses from Bolzano to Lana. There are direct buses from Milan to Bolzano and from Verona to Bolzano, book your tickets online at Flixbus.
By bus
The Merano Land Express bus from Munich Germany to Merano runs every Wednesday and Saturday from mid-March to November. From Merano, there is a connecting service to your accommodation when travelling with Merano Land Express. If you are travelling from Switzerland, catch the South Tyrol express bus which runs every Saturday from March to October to Merano. Regular buses run between Merano and Lana, check the times to ensure you can catch the last bus if arriving late in the evening.
By private transfer
Book a shared private transfer from train stations or bus stops to your accommodation via the South Tyrol transfer site. Another option is Alto Adige Transfer which provides a transfer service that can take you from a FlixBus stop to your accommodation including a return to the bus stop at the end of your trip.

If you’re driving from the UK, the journey from Calais to Lana avoiding tolls is 13 hours 17 minutes and with tolls, it takes 12 hours 30 minutes. Lana is 1 hour 30 minutes drive north from Lake Garda, 2 hours 30 minutes from Verona, 3 hours from Venice and 4 hours 30 minutes from Milan.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT SCHWARZSCHMIED HOTEL?

WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE AT SCHWARZSCHMIED HOTEL?
The hotel is inspired by its surroundings, with a fusion of natural elements with wood and textiles revealing an elegant style in design. The rooms you can choose from are double, deluxe double, suite, junior suite and residence rooms. Rooms are supplied with natural products made by Susanne Kaufmann that consist of alpine ingredients.
We stayed in a garden wing, where there are a number of suites with private balconies with floor-to-ceiling glass doors. The garden suites have a bath, shower, TV, large sink with mirror, yoga mat, backpack, tote bag, bathrobes, wardrobe space, lounge, mini-bar and a beautiful balcony overlooking the pool. The bathtub overlooked the church and we loved the private balcony which was adorned with wisteria flowers coming into bloom.
There is also the option to stay in the Residence which is separate from the main hotel building and does not come with a mini bar and the rooms are minimal with just the essentials.
WHAT FACILITIES ARE THERE AT SCHWARZSCHMIED HOTEL?
Schwarzschmied hotel features a beautiful spa which is open every day and offers beauty treatments and massages. The spa area consists of multiple relaxing areas, where you can sip on fruit infused water or herbal tea whilst watching the fire. There is an indoor and outdoor heated pool, which are perfect for a morning dip or to cool down after a hike. In the afternoon, enjoy the steam bath, bio-sauna and Finnish outdoor sauna. A gym is perfectly positioned with views of the outdoor pool and mountains featuring aesthetically pleasing equipment.
Regular yoga sessions and guided hikes are on the weekly programme at Schwarzschmied hotel, giving you the opportunity to make the most of your stay and help you feel rejuvenated. La Fucina restaurant and bar serves drinks and food throughout the day. In the main reception area, there is a library with a great selection of books. City and mountain bikes are provided free of charge for your enjoyment to explore the local surroundings of Lana.
There is free underground parking area beneath the hotel for you to park your car during your stay at Schwarzschmied. The hotel also provides an e-charging station for electric cars and Wi-Fi is found across the hotel and in the garden. Upon arrival you will be provided with a Mobilcard which is a free Südtirol Alto Adige Guest Pass which gives free access to public transport in South Tyrol.

La Fucina
Whilst staying at Schwarzschmied hotel, there are breakfast and half board options when booking. Breakfast is served buffet and à la carte style, where you can create your own juice, enjoy fresh local produce including fruit, breads, local butters with the option to order fresh eggs and crêpes. It is served from 7:30am till 11am which gives plenty of time to squeeze in a morning swim or have a lazy morning in bed. Lunch and snacks are available at an additional cost where they serve homemade pasta, salads, antipasti and cakes from 12 till 5pm.
Included in the half board menu is dinner at La Fucina restaurant which is served daily from 6:30 till 8:30pm. The menu at La Fucina is a farm to table, 4 course set menu with three options for each course that follows a ‘slow food’ concept. As each dish arrives you can take your time to eat and enjoy how each one is defined by what nature provides. Ingredients are locally sourced, fresh and cleverly combined to create delicious dishes. There is also a bar in the main reception area which is open all day serving drinks and snacks.
